| Wikitel se concibió con el objetivo de que a medio plazo estuviese disponible en los principales idiomas. Y aunque hasta la fecha no haya surgido ninguna variante internacional, parece conveniente que se conozcan las condiciones para proponer una variante linguística
| Wikitel was conceived with a long term goal of having it developed in the major languages. Although so far nothing has gotten off the ground it seems appropriate to let you know the basic reasoning and conditions to propose a language variant.
Reasoning
- Wikitel neither is, nor anyone should assume, an encyclopedia. It is more like a new form of professional, sectorial, reference book.
- Therefore it seems ilogical to imagine an authoritative reference book having as many different versions as there are language variants.
- The different international versions cannot have different quality controls.
- The different international versions cannot have different collaboration rules.
- The different international versions cannot make contradictory statements.
- The different international versions must have some common pages to facilitate country comparisons and benchmarking.
- The different international versions must have common functionalities and esthetics. They should build on the Wikitel project and brand name.
But, Wikitel being a Web 2.0 collaborative work,
- The language versions should have the liberty to have articles at different maturity stages.
- Each language version will be free to set their priorities and should have the liberty to develop new articles and translate other Wikitel articles.
- Wikitel software enhancement and development plans will be common across all language versions.
Implementation
- Each language driver or leader must plan, control, sponsor and coordinate with the Wikitel Foundation its language specific development.
